"Poland supports Israel on the one hand, but on the other it continues to strongly support the Middle East peace process. We would very much like this very important place for the world, where relations are often very difficult, to have the best possible relations with mutual respect of nations, but also taking account of mutual needs, and (this should be achieved) through conversation, dialogue," President Duda said at a joint conference with President Rivlin.
It is important that this process should be carried out "without imposing any external will by other countries", Andrzej Duda added.
"The ties that link our nations have a thousand years of history and it is a relation that is often intertwined with family relationships, but primarily cultural ones. It is a huge asset that undisputedly links our nations," the Polish president added.
President Duda thanked Rivlin for his presence at the 2014 opening of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. He noted that the facility testified "to our common thousand-year-long history", stressing the museum's importance for young people from Poland and Israel.
Andrzej Duda also recalled difficult moments in the Polish-Jewish history, including the German Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939 and the events that unfolded in German-occupied Poland, including the Holocaust.
"Today Poland and Israel have been linked by long-standing cordial relations. Poland as a country has always supported Israel and I want to assure you it continues to do so," the Polish president stressed.
President Duda expressed satisfaction with Poland-Israel cooperation in the field of modern technologies and innovative economy, noting the presence of Polish start-up firms in his delegation.
Rivlin reiterated that Poland was the first country he had visited as the president of Israel. "Our meetings with Polish authorities have always been full of content and testified to the close links between the countries and nations, which have lasted for thousands of years."
The Israeli president also spoke of "bravely facing the past - complex and painful". "At the moment there is no area that lacks cooperation between our two countries," Rivlin stressed. Israel's contacts with the EU and Poland lie at the core of the Israeli foreign policy, he added.
"We are not only trade partners, we also share common values, common goals. It is important for us to develop a joint stance towards the emerging international order," Rivlin stated.
The Polish presidential couple came to Israel on Monday evening. The official part of the visit started in Jerusalem on Tuesday with the ceremony of welcoming President Duda by President Rivlin.
