President Andrzej Duda and his wife on Monday begin a several-day visit to Israel and Palestine. The Polish president will meet with Israel's president and prime minister as well as visit the Yad Vashem Institute.

"The programme of Andrzej Duda's visit in its Israeli part includes talks with all of Israel's leading politicians. On Wednesday president will be invited to a private dinner with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu", presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski has told PAP.

President Duda will also meet with President Reuven Rivlin and the speaker of the Knesset, he added.

The Polish president "will also deliver two important speeches. The first one, at the Menachem Begin Centre, will focus on historical and contemporary Polish-Jewish relations", according to Krzysztof Szczerski.

The other address, on geopolitics, threats and challenges to security and peace, will be presented at the Israeli Council on Foreign Relations as part of a conference organised jointly with the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM).

In Jerusalem, President Duda will present former Speaker of the Knesset and Ambassador to Poland Shevach Weiss with the Order of the White Eagle.

President Duda is also to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who visited Warsaw last year.

The Polish president's visit to Israel and Palestine is part of "Poland's policy of a presence and interest in problems of peace in the world as well as security", Szczerski told PAP, adding that "it is also a part of showing Poland's interest in these issues in its drive to win non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for 2018-2019".

A group of representatives of Polish start-ups will travel to Israel with President Duda. They will have a separate programme of meetings with prospective business partners, minister Szczerski also said.
